In Memory of Layla

One of the links on this blog is to a blog called 52 Cupcakes.  If you have ever done a cupcake search on Flickr or Google you have come across the Cupcake Queen and her dog Layla.  Very sadly, Layla passed away early this morning.  I have never met the Cupcake Queen, but my heart is with her today and I will miss Layla's photos with cupcakes.

Button Cupcakes

When I was a little girl, my grandmother had an old treadle sewing machine.  One of the drawers was full of buttons collected over decades and I spent hours sitting on the floor picking through those old buttons while she sewed.

I don't know what happened to them but the designs on those old buttons are burned into my memory and they popped into my head today for no apparent reason.  I started to think about cupcakes decorated with buttons!

119th Anniversary of the First Documented Ice Cream Sundae

If you have used Google today, you have seen their Google art...the 119th anniversary of the first documented ice cream sundae.  I think ice cream and cupcakes baked in cones make a splendid team!

Sailboat Cupcakes

Ahoy mates!  I can neither confirm nor deny that there may be a sailboat purchased in a few weeks...and it may be floating on Lake Tahoe soon with cupcakes on the deck!  (this is no April Fool)

Cupcake Pinata

I was at Party City  in Reno today and saw a cupcake pinata so when I got home I surfed around and found a few more!  I really like the ones with the pull strings.

Is a Ho-Ho really a cupcake?

On my recent trip to Napa, I ordered a red velvet Ho-Ho at one of the wineries. It was quite large and it took me two days to eat it...dee-lish-uss-ness!  But I started to wonder if a Ho-Ho would qualify as a cupcake. The cake, filling and icing were all essentially the same...the only difference was the shape.  After much research and contemplation, I have reached the conclusion that a Ho-Ho is an oblong rolled cupcake!

Cupcakes with Bling

I was watching My Fair Wedding with David Tutera last night and he was attempting to bling up a boring wedding....so I started thinking about blinging up some cupcakes!

Chocolate Chips & Cupcakes

One of my favorite ingredients is the chocolate chip.  Melt some for a topping or dipping sauce for fruit.  Add them to pancakes...and adding them to cookie dough just goes without saying.  Here are some ideas for featuring chocolate chips with cupcakes!

(I just love those liners!)
